Add web pages and files
Teach Pluno from your documentation sites, help center and uploaded files. Covers what gets crawled, page limits, refresh schedules and file size limits.
Use Web Pages & Files to teach Pluno from content that lives outside your tickets: documentation sites, hosted documents, and files you upload.
You need the Admin role for everything on this page.
Add a web page#
- Open Knowledge, then Web Pages & Files.
- Select Edit.
- Select + Add Web Page and enter the URL of the start page.
- Repeat for each site you want to add.
- Select Save.
Pluno starts crawling in the background. New content can take up to 4 hours to reach its answers.
What Pluno crawls#
From each start URL, Pluno follows links to pages on the same domain, or its subdomains, whose path starts with the path of the start URL.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Pages per start URL | 300 |
| Pages under any one parent path | 50 |
| Link depth | No limit |
If your documentation is larger than that, add several start URLs, one per section.
Pluno reads these formats and sources:
- HTML pages, including pages that need JavaScript to render.
- PDFs with selectable text. Scanned PDFs are not read.
- Text and Markdown files (
.txt,.md). - Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, and Google Drive files.
- Public Notion pages on
notion.site. - GitHub repositories. Code and configuration files are skipped.
llms.txtfiles. Pluno follows the links inside.
Pluno cannot read pages behind a login, and it does not read sitemaps. Audio and video are skipped.
Help center articles#
Your help center is added automatically when you connect your help desk, so you do not need to add it here. In Zendesk, Pluno fetches articles directly instead of crawling them, which means the page limits above do not apply.
For a help center source, Edit shows two extra settings:
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Articles to include | Public only, Public + articles available to all signed-in users (the default), or All articles |
| Use non-public articles in deflection | On or off. Shown when you include more than public articles |
Upload files#
- Open Knowledge, then Web Pages & Files.
- Select Edit, then Upload Files.
- Drag your files into the drop zone, or click it to browse.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| File types | .txt, .md, .pdf, .docx, .json |
| Size per file | 50 MB |
| Files per upload | 10 |
| Total size per upload | 250 MB |
Every file is scanned for malware before Pluno reads it. From PDFs, Pluno reads selectable text. From Word documents, it reads paragraph text, so move anything important out of tables and headers.
Keep sources up to date#
| Source | Refreshed |
|---|---|
| Web pages | Every two weeks |
| Help center articles | Every day |
| Uploaded files | Not refreshed. Upload the new version and remove the old one |
To refresh a web page source now, select the circular-arrow icon to the left of its URL.
Pages that no longer exist on your site drop out at the next refresh.
Check the status of a source#
Each source shows how much Pluno read and when:
- A spinning icon means Pluno is crawling the source now.
- "N pages, updated … ago" means the crawl finished.
Remove a source#
- A web page. Select Edit, select the trash icon next to the URL, then select Save.
- A file. Select the ✕ next to the file. It is deleted straight away.
Content from a removed source stops being used once Pluno rebuilds its knowledge, which happens on the next save or the next refresh.
There is no setting to exclude a single page from a source. To leave pages out, use a start URL that does not include them.
